Smoking cessation - never give up giving up
All Burrows and Close pharmacies offer support and advice as well as aids to stop smoking. Nicotine replacement therapy can be obtained locally and free of charge through attendance of stop smoking clinics provided by the health authority. Ask at your nearest Burrows and Close for advice.
Minor ailment schemes
Five Burrows and Close pharmacies currently offer the Pharmacy First scheme - Bulwell, Wollaton, Ilkeston Road, Lenton, Bestwood, Eastwood, Calverton, Hilltop and Stapleford. Pharmacy First allows our pharmacists to prescribe remedies for certain minor ailments free of charge (to people who do not normally pay for their prescriptions) and without the need to make an appointment.
Emergency contraception
All Burrows and Close pharmacies stock the after sex
pill (also known as the morning after
pill). If you have had unprotected sex within seventy two hours, our pharmacist will discretely provide you with the emergency contraception pill and advice if requested.
Help with taking your medicines
Burrows and Close pharmacists can supply you with specialised devices designed to help you take your medicines at the right time and avoid missing a dose. These devices can be bought, or our pharmacist can dispense medication into the device for you free of charge if the health authority run a scheme in your area, or your doctor agrees to prescribing your medication on a weekly basis. Medication disposal
Burrows and Close pharmacies participate in a scheme whereby all unwanted medicines are sent away for incineration. We advise that all such medication is returned to us for safe disposal.
Residential and Nursing Homes
We can give a complete pharmaceutical service including Monitored Dosage Systems to residential and nursing homes in the area. This can include delivering medicines when necessary and giving advice on using, storing and disposing of them safely. We can also help with keeping records.
Emergency Supplies
We may be able to help if you need a prescription medicine in an emergency when it is impossible to get to your doctor. We can only do this in genuine emergencies and because this cannot be done under the NHS we have to charge.
