Company Background

Burrows and Close was launched in 1973 when Richard Close and fellow pharmacist Graham Burrows opened their first shop in Eastwood, Nottingham. This formed the Head Office, Warehouse and Retail outlet, all under the one roof.

Soon after, in 1975, the first branch pharmacy was opened on Lenton Boulevard .This was the start of the steady expansion of the business which now consists of 16 retail pharmacies that are located predominantly around the Nottingham area, but also at Mickleover and Grantham.

As a result of this planned expansion the Company moved its Head Office to Charles Way, Bulwell, Nottingham, which also incorporates a central warehouse.

In January 2004 Richard Close bought his partners out and the new look Burrows Close Pharmacies was formed, with Richard heading the Company as Managing Director. It is now a family-run business with two of Mr Close's sons, Alan and Lyndon, actively working within the Head Office. Alan Close is the Buying and Wholesaling Executive, in addition to running and controlling the Head Office Warehouse. Lyndon, is the Superintendant Pharmacist and oversees the overall management of the pharmacy managers and their staff.

The Company attributes its success by concentrating on being local and by offering a personal quality service. It is proud of its very loyal and dedicated workforce. The Company now employs over 140 staff, a good number of whom have been with the Company for many years.

In the future the Company has plans to expand the group gradually, whilst retaining its personal and family approach.
